Founded as a remote-area communications provider ('Since 1994' per company history). In its earlier phase it provided affordable satellite communications to very remote indigenous communities, improving access to health services. Legal entity URSYS Pty Ltd carries ACN 004 011 072 - an ACN prefix suggesting the shell predates the telecoms business by several years. |

Began building its own satellite ground equipment when Telstra launched its satellite service: US-sourced routers proved unsatisfactory for Australian conditions, so URSYS developed the 'BusiBox', a diskless (solar-capable) Debian GNU/Linux satellite router with a custom TCP/IP stack tuned for satellite latency, plus open-source firewall/QoS/IPSec VPN/mail/DNS, all managed via web interface. |
